The only identifying detail in this record is the name, Mrs. M. Orme Wilson, which comes from caption information the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its card and which the Library of Congress has not verified. George Grantham Bain started the New York agency around 1899 to supply news photographs to newspapers, and its staff made portraits of prominent people, events, and everyday scenes for that market. Glass negatives like this one were the standard working medium of the period, and the Bain files now serve as a broad visual record of the early twentieth century.
