The caption on this glass negative names Eliz. Freeman, traveling en route to Washington, but the Bain News Service that supplied the title did not verify it, so the identity and the trip remain uncertain. The picture belongs to George Grantham Bain's collection of news photographs, made in New York in the early twentieth century, when his agency sold images of public figures, events, and travelers to newspapers. Glass negatives like this one, usually 5 by 7 inches or smaller, are a valuable record of that period, and the original caption cards are worth reading for clues about who was pictured and why.
