Under the words "In service for the girls of the world," this 1919 color poster by illustrator Neysa McMein presents the Young Women's Christian Association as a service organization aimed at young women everywhere. Printed by the American Lithographic Company in New York, it was issued during the period when the YWCA was expanding its wartime work, including hostels and canteens for women who had moved to industrial and military areas. McMein, who later became known for her magazine covers, brings a polished, modern look to the image, and the poster reflects how charitable groups of the era sought to promote themselves to the public.
