Sixth in the Bella Italia portfolio of 1969, this etching by Albin Brunovsky takes Italy as its subject, according to the caption card. The series title, which translates roughly as "beautiful Italy," points to a picture of the country that is affectionate, critical, or both, though the record does not describe the individual scene. Etching works by biting lines into a metal plate with acid, which lets an artist build fine hatching and tonal depth, and prints from portfolios of this kind were usually issued in small editions. Close looking at the line work and the arrangement of forms is the best way to see what this plate contributes to the set.
