Two enslaved men in Bahia carry a cloth-covered sedan chair on their shoulders, with a woman seated inside and hidden from the street. The scene was engraved for Maria Graham's *Journal of a Voyage to Brazil*, published in London in 1824, where it appears on page 133. Graham spent part of 1821 through 1823 in Brazil and recorded its daily life as a foreign visitor, and the sedan chair was a common way for wealthy women in the city to travel, carried by enslaved workers. The engraving may be the work of Edward Francis Finden, a London engraver.
