Proctor's Broad Street theater began as the Lyceum in 1884, and this ca. 1920 ink drawing records the Elizabeth, New Jersey, house during the years when it was known by its later name. The Library of Congress catalogs the sheet among its architectural drawings, and its subject headings place theaters and motion picture houses in Elizabeth between 1910 and 1930. That was a period when vaudeville and the new movies competed for the same audiences, and many theaters were remodeled to keep up. A drawing like this helps show how the building was laid out during that change.
