Unlike many theater views on this board, this is a working architectural drawing rather than a photograph or poster: an ink rendering on paper of the Mosque theater at the corner of Broad Street and Clinton Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. Dated 1926, it comes from the Library of Congress's architecture and engineering drawings, which preserve plans and elevations used to design and document American buildings. The Mosque was one of the large movie palaces that rose in Newark's downtown during the 1920s, when films drew crowds large enough to support theaters of lavish scale. Drawings like this show how such buildings were conceived before construction, which makes them valuable to researchers of theater design.
