Few pictures on this board are working drawings rather than photographs, and this ink plan of Proctor's East Jersey Street theater, also called Jacob's theater, shows the building as its designers laid it out. It stood on East Jersey Street near Broad Street in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and the Library of Congress dates the drawing to about 1920, when vaudeville and motion pictures were drawing large crowds into theaters like this one. The Proctor name refers to the vaudeville circuit run by Frederick Freeman Proctor, whose houses in the Northeast mixed live acts with films. The drawing belongs to the library's architecture, engineering and design collection.
