Taken from the harbor side, this view centers on the Ottoman Bank in Galata, the financial district across the Golden Horn from the old imperial city. The Ottoman Bank, chartered in 1856 with heavy European investment, was among the most important financial institutions in the empire, and its presence in Galata reflects how the neighborhood had become a hub of foreign merchants, consulates, and commerce. The print comes from an album by Abdullah Frères, a Constantinople studio known for views of the city and its monuments, and it is part of the Abdul-Hamid II Collection assembled during his reign from 1876 to 1909.
