Few wartime posters were built to sell a motion picture, and this one promotes "America's Answer," which the record describes as the second official United States war film. The Committee on Public Information, the federal propaganda agency set up in 1917 under George Creel, produced and distributed such films to show American troops and the war effort to home audiences. The color design pairs military figures with the flag, a combination typical of 1918 recruiting and morale art. Its subjects, including the public communication of the war, make it a useful example of how the government used entertainment to build support for the fighting.
