Printed for the Victory Liberty Loan, the last of the bond drives Americans supported during the First World War, this poster pairs the phrase "For Home and Country" with an appeal to lend money to the government. The campaign ran in the spring of 1919, as the fighting had ended but the government still needed funds to pay off wartime debt. Posters like this one hung in post offices, banks and public squares to remind citizens of their duty. Alfred Everitt Orr, the illustrator credited here, produced designs for several wartime campaigns, and the American Lithographic Company of New York printed them in color, a process that allowed large print runs.
