The title points to Walter "Rabbit" Maranville, the slick-fielding shortstop who played for Boston's National League club, the Braves, for much of the 1910s and early 1920s. The record itself is thin, though. The title comes from unverified Bain News Service caption information, and no date is given. Bain was a New York agency that sold news pictures to newspapers across the country, so this glass plate most likely served a sports or news page of its day. Maranville was a key part of the Braves team that won the 1914 World Series, one of baseball's great upsets, and he became one of the more recognizable players of that era.
