Most images of the 1621 Plymouth harvest feast show a crowded table, but this color reproduction of J.L.G. Ferris's oil painting presents the meal as an encounter between Pilgrims and Massachusetts Indians, the people named in its subject headings. The feast, held in autumn 1621 after the colony's first harvest, was a three-day celebration that later became the model for the national Thanksgiving holiday. Ferris, an American painter known for historical scenes, made the original work, and this print was issued around 1932 by The Foundation Press of Cleveland as part of its *Pageant of a Nation* series. The image reflects how Americans of that era imagined their founding stories.
