Captioned as L.S. Chandler speaking at Sag Harbor, this glass negative dates to October 1908, though the record does not say what the occasion was. Sag Harbor, a whaling port in the nineteenth century, sits at the eastern end of Long Island and was a village of local meetings and summer visitors by the early 1900s. The negative comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers, and its title was taken from caption data the agency recorded without full verification, so the speaker's name and setting should be read as provisional.
