The title singles out Robertson as the winner, which sets this frame apart from other views of the Vanderbilt Cup on this board. The race was run on October 24, 1908, on a course laid out on Long Island, where the event had been contested since 1904 and drew leading American and European automakers. Bain News Service, a New York press photo agency, sent photographers to such events, and glass negatives like this one were the standard working format of the period, so the picture shows the cars and the spectators much as the newspapers of the day would have seen them.
