A race car in the Isotta marque takes the finish line at the Motor Parkway on Long Island, a private toll road that hosted motor racing after it opened in 1908. The driver is listed as Lytle, but that name comes from caption data the record itself marks as unverified. The Bain News Service, which George Grantham Bain founded, sent photographers to newsworthy events and sold their glass-plate negatives to newspapers, which explains why a moment like this finish survives in such crisp detail.
