A clerk's offhand reply gives this 1920 cartoon its joke. A man asks whether Mr. Pinfield is stopping there, and the clerk answers, "I'm sorry Sir, we haven't got Mr. Pinfield, but we've got somebody just as good," treating a hotel guest like a stock item. The caption notes that the clerk was formerly employed in a drug store, which points to the familiar shopkeeper's habit of offering a substitute when the requested item is out of stock. The drawing, in India ink over pencil on bristol board, was published in *Good Morning* on May 1, 1920, and was later shown by the Cartoonists Guild in its exhibition *The Art in Cartooning*.
