Three members of the German imperial family are named in this glass negative: Ernst August, Victoria Louise and Prince Oscar, though the names come from Bain News Service caption cards and have not been verified. Victoria Louise was the only daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and her 1913 marriage to Ernst August, later Duke of Brunswick, drew wide press attention. Oscar was one of the Kaiser's sons. The Bain agency, a New York news photo service, sold images like this to newspapers, which is why portraits of European royalty appear in its collection. The record gives no date, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
