The record for this glass negative identifies its subject only as the Prince of Monaco, and that title is unverified, taken from caption cards in the Bain News Service files. Bain was a New York news photo agency that supplied pictures of public figures and events to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Monaco's rulers of that period, especially Albert I, were known for oceanographic research and for promoting the principality as a scientific center, so a press portrait of one would have had clear news value. Treat the identification as a lead to check rather than a settled fact.
