The Victory theater on Westminster Street in Providence was built as a house for B.F. Keith's vaudeville circuit, the Boston-based chain led by Benjamin Franklin Keith, who promoted clean, family-oriented variety shows across the Northeast. Like many large downtown theaters of that era, it drew crowds for acrobats, comedians, singers, and the early motion pictures that were increasingly added to vaudeville bills. The change of name from Keith's to Victory marks a new chapter in the building's life, and the sign and street scene make the piece a useful record of how Westminster Street's theater district looked in its heyday.
