Little is firmly documented about the occasion behind this glass negative. The National Photo Company supplied the title "Hoover campaigning," but that label was never verified, and the bracketed 1929 date is inferred from neighboring negatives in the same range, so it may fall after Hoover's 1928 election rather than mark a specific rally. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that photographed political figures and public life for decades, and its plates, given to the Library of Congress in 1947, record the era's political activity. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from natural deterioration of the original coating.
