Samuel von Pufendorf (1632-1694) was a German jurist and philosopher whose work shaped how European thinkers understood natural law and the rights of states. Trained at Leipzig and later a professor at Heidelberg and Lund, he argued that natural law could be grounded in human reason and sociability rather than in revelation alone, a position that influenced later writers on contract and government. This reproduction of an engraved portrait keeps his likeness alive for a figure who bridged scholarly law and the political debates of late seventeenth-century Europe. The record itself carries no date, so the print's exact origin remains uncertain.
