Pollock Street is one of the main thoroughfares of New Bern, North Carolina, and this view looks west along it from Craven Street. The town was founded in 1710 by Swiss and German settlers led by Baron Christoph von Graffenried, and its streets were named for colonial figures, including Thomas Pollock, a leading North Carolina official of the period. New Bern later became the seat of colonial government, home to Tryon Palace, and its streets reflect that long history as a river port and administrative center. The caption card records no date, so the year the picture was made remains unknown.
