Few WPA posters take on a federal farm policy as directly as this one, which advertises a Los Angeles staging of *Triple-A Plowed Under*, a Living Newspaper production from the Federal theater Project. The Agricultural Adjustment Act paid farmers to reduce planted acreage and destroy surplus crops, a practice that drew sharp criticism at a time when many families still lacked enough food. The play turned those headlines into dramatized scenes meant to explain the program to audiences. The poster was made in California in 1936 by the Federal Art Project, one of the WPA's arts units, which used flat silkscreen color to publicize stage productions across the country.
