A slogan, "The World of Tomorrow," sets this 1939 poster apart from the many fair pictures on the board. The New York World's Fair opened that April in Flushing Meadows, Queens, where its Trylon and Perisphere became the defining symbols of a streamlined future. The design is credited to Joseph Binder, an Austrian-born graphic artist who had moved to the United States only a few years earlier, and the sheet carries the fair's own copyright line. It is worth noting how the poster offered a forward-looking vision to a country still recovering from the Great Depression.
