This color poster promotes polo, a sport that drew large crowds to the grounds along Chicago's North Shore in the 1920s, when wealthy suburbs such as Lake Forest and Libertyville were known for their clubs and fields. The railway that carried visitors, the North Shore Line, ran electric interurban trains between Chicago and Milwaukee, so the poster ties a leisure activity to a commuter route. It was produced in Chicago around 1923 by the National Printing & Engraving Company and credited to the artist O.R. Hanson. Its use of a sporting scene to sell train travel was typical of the transit advertising of the period.
