A Christmas greeting from the artist and his wife, Dorothy, this small etching is set in Meudon, a town on the southwestern edge of Paris. John Taylor Arms, an American printmaker who worked in France during the 1920s, made a series of holiday cards in which each plate doubled as a personal greeting and a finished work. Cards like this were usually sent to friends and fellow artists, so the image records both a seasonal wish and a small piece of the couple's circle. At roughly 8 by 12 centimeters, it shows how Arms's architectural etchings of the period depended on precise, intimate detail.
