This glass negative records a cornerstone laying at East Gale Lodge, a ceremony marking the start of a building's construction. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, made large numbers of such documentary views. Its date of September 1, 1922, comes from the company's own notation and has not been independently verified. Viewers should also expect streaks and other blemishes on the glass, the result of natural deterioration in the original emulsion.
