This stereograph, titled "In the forests of Mindanao, P.I.," shows the dense tropical woodland of Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines. The Keystone View Company produced cards like this one for home stereoscope viewers, who could see a scene in three dimensions through paired images. In 1919 the Philippines was an American territory, and Keystone's views of its islands gave American households a visual sense of distant colonial lands. The record's date and place come from an unverified caption card, so the exact circumstances of the photograph are not confirmed.
