The title "Deep well story" appears on the negative sleeve in the hand of the National Photo Company, though the Library of Congress notes that it has not been verified against the scene. The negative is dated between 1918 and 1921, based on other negatives in the same group, and Herbert A. French gave it to the Library in 1947. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that produced a large body of views on glass during the early twentieth century. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural deterioration of the original coatings.
