The Cyrillic title, roughly "The broom of the Red Army will sweep away all the scum," puts a common household object at the center of this color postcard. In Soviet propaganda, the broom was a familiar metaphor for purging enemies and social ills, and here the army is cast as the one doing the sweeping. Published in Moscow in 1957 by the state art publisher Izogiz, the card belongs to a long run of postwar reproductions that kept military themes before the public during the early Cold War. Its halftone printing reflects the inexpensive color methods that let such images circulate widely.
