Alice Brady, a young American stage and screen actress, is the subject of this color lithograph for *The Hungry Heart*, printed by the Chelsea Litho Co. of New York around 1917. The caption links the poster to *Frou Frou*, the French stage drama by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy that had been a favorite vehicle for actresses since its Paris premiere in 1869. Butterflies and roses fill the design, motifs typical of the decorative posters of the 1910s that suggested romance and sentiment. The poster is also a reminder of how producers borrowed the prestige of a well-known stage title to promote a new production.
