Its subject headings point to clamming, fishermen and seaside holidays, which sets it apart from the gallery's other views of the British coast. The London & North Eastern Railway issued it to promote travel along the East Coast main line between London and Scotland and to draw city travelers to the seaside. Tom Purvis, one of the leading British poster designers of the interwar years, made the design, and the color lithograph suits the flat shapes and saturated colors favored in railway advertising of the period. Dangerfield Printing Co. produced the poster in London, and its date is recorded only as sometime between 1930 and 1940.
