Few figures of the Second World War are as contested as Andrey Vlasov, the Soviet general captured by German forces in 1942 who later led the Russian Liberation Army, known by its Russian initials ROA. The record identifies this print as showing Vlasov with ROA officers, but it draws on an old caption card and is only partly verified. The date deserves a closer look: the ROA was organized with German backing in 1944, so a 1942 date would predate the force itself, and the picture may show a later moment or carry a caption that needs correcting.
