A man in time is worth nine" turns the proverb "a stitch in time saves nine" into a recruiting pitch, urging men to enlist early. Printed in Minneapolis by the Syndicate Printing Company in 1917, the year the United States entered the First World War, it targets the U.S. Navy's need for sailors as the country expanded its forces. Recruiting posters like this were displayed widely in public places during the war, and this one's Minneapolis origin shows that such material was produced far beyond the major eastern print centers.
