The Industrial Institute in Lafayette, Louisiana, was founded by the state in 1898 to give young people in the southwestern part of the state practical training in farming and the mechanical trades. The caption card gives no date for this print, so it is not clear which building or campus scene it shows. The card's subject tracings, "Geogr." and "Schools," mark it as a record of a state school, part of a wave of agricultural and industrial colleges that spread across the South in the early twentieth century.
