The name on this glass negative is Galli-Curci, most likely the Italian coloratura soprano Amelita Galli-Curci, who became one of the best-known singers of the early recording and radio era. The Bain News Service, the New York agency that made and captioned the negative, supplied news photographs to newspapers, and portraits of performers were a regular part of that work. The record gives no date, and its title comes from the agency's own caption cards, so the identification has not been independently confirmed. The plate is still a useful glimpse of how celebrity singers were pictured for the press in the years after 1910.
