This image shows Theodore Roosevelt greeting a man identified in the caption as Gen. H.S. Hudekoper, a meeting that appears to have been staged or recorded for the press. The record gives no date, and the Bain News Service's identification of the sitters was not independently verified, so the names and occasion should be read with some caution. The Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that sold pictures to newspapers in the early 1900s, and Roosevelt, president from 1901 to 1909, was among the most photographed public figures of that era. The glass negative format of the original plate is typical of this period's news photography.
