Zim's color lithograph for the September 1, 1906, cover of *Judge* casts William Howard Taft, then Secretary of War, as a presidential hopeful, with the title "The large-ical candidate" poking fun at his considerable bulk. Caricaturists frequently exaggerated Taft's size, and the joke suggests that his weight was already a talking point in political circles two years before the Republican Party nominated him in 1908. *Judge*, a New York humor weekly, was known for its vivid color covers, and this one shows how the magazine turned presidential ambitions into visual commentary for its readers.
