Few rooms in the executive mansion have changed as often as the president's office, and this view shows it around 1904, two years after the 1902 renovation that gave the presidency its own office space. That work by the architecture firm McKim, Mead & White added a separate office wing, moving the business of government out of the family quarters upstairs. The print comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm known for its wide survey of American scenery and landmarks. Its date rests on an unverified caption card, so the year should be read with that caveat in mind.
