Rather than a view of a whole building, this 1805 drawing shows a ground plan and section of a vault designed for the Treasury Department's papers. Rendered in ink, graphite, and watercolor, it details the arrangement of cases along the north wall, with certain parts colored brown to set them apart. The Treasury had suffered a serious fire in 1801, so officials had good reason to want their records kept in a room built to resist flame. The drawing also predates the British burning of Washington in 1814, which destroyed much of the Treasury building.
