This view of the reading room aboard the S.S. Olympic shows one of the lounges meant for first-class passengers on the White Star Line liner, which entered service in 1911. The Olympic was the first of three giant liners built in Belfast, and its interiors were designed to make crossings of the Atlantic feel like time spent in a comfortable club or hotel. William H. Rau, a Philadelphia photographer known for his photoprints of ships and rail lines, made this copyrighted print. Because the record comes from an old caption card and its details are unverified, the room's exact location on the ship is worth checking against other sources.
