The title addresses half the country directly, speaking to the women of Britain in 1915, when the war was asking far more of them than it had at the start. Casualties were mounting and voluntary recruitment was under strain, so women were increasingly drawn into munitions factories, farms, transport, and nursing. Posters and pictures of this kind often sought to rally women to take up war work, to encourage the men around them to enlist, or to support the national effort in other ways. The wording and the appeal to women as a group say a good deal about how wartime messages were aimed at civilian audiences.
