The Rodeino residence in Oakville, California, is a 1982 project that pairs a perspective view with plans, both rendered in airbrush and ink. Drawings like this one were built to persuade a client before a house was ever built, and airbrushing gave the artist soft gradients of light and shadow that pencil work could not easily match. The method was giving way to computer rendering by the end of the decade. The drawing was later reproduced in *Eyes of the Nation*, a survey of American visual history, which shows how working architectural documents came to be valued as records of everyday building.
