The phrase "It's up to you" sets this poster apart from the many Uncle Sam recruiting images of the period, placing the appeal directly on the viewer as a personal duty to "protect the nation's honor." It was printed as a color lithograph and issued through the Associated Motion Picture Advertisers, a trade group that distributed promotional material to movie theaters. That channel matters: by the late 1910s, cinemas were among the most widely attended public spaces in America, so posters displayed in lobbies reached large audiences during the United States' entry into World War I in 1917. Its catalog record places it in the years around 1918, when the government and its partners pressed enlistment and wartime support across the country.
