Drawn in 1919, this ink-on-paper plan records the State Street theater, a house on State Street close to Trenton's City Hall in New Jersey's capital. The period was one of rapid growth for American movie houses, which were replacing storefront nickelodeons with larger, more elaborate auditoriums that often shared their bills with vaudeville acts. The Library of Congress holds the drawing in its architecture, design and engineering drawings, and its subject headings tie it to Trenton's theaters of the 1910s, making it a useful record of how such buildings were planned in that decade.
