A route promotion for the Norwich Line, this print traces a combined passage: steamboat from New York up Long Island Sound to Norwich, Connecticut, then rail through the New York and New England Railroad to Boston and Worcester. In the early 1880s, such through-tickets let travelers avoid long overland trips, and the steamers competed fiercely with rival Sound lines for passengers. The date of about 1882 is approximate, so the print is best read as a snapshot of how water and rail were being stitched together in that period.
