Gasoline Alley was a daily newspaper comic strip drawn by Frank King, who launched it in the Chicago Tribune in 1918. Its most distinctive feature was that its characters aged in something close to real time, a rarity among strips of the era, and the story famously began when a baby was left on a garage doorstep in 1921. The record for this item is brief, so its exact origin and date are not documented here. Still, it reflects the wider popularity of newspaper strips in early twentieth-century America, when families followed these characters as part of their daily routine.
