Titled *Irish Peasant Farmer*, this color print belongs to a Views of Ireland series issued by the Detroit Publishing Co. under catalog number 12124. It is a photochrom, a process that built a color image from several lithographic stones printed over one another, developed in Switzerland in the 1880s and licensed in the United States to the Detroit firm, which sold such views to travelers and armchair tourists. The record dates it to between about 1890 and 1900, a period when rural Irish life drew wide interest, and the picture offers a close look at the farm labor and dress of that time.
