This lithograph addresses British-born men living in New York directly, with its headline "Britishers, enlist to-day" and a Union Jack at the center. It was printed in color in about 1917 for a recruiting effort run from 280 Broadway, where British authorities signed up men living in the United States for service in the British forces. The United States did not enter the war until April 1917, so posters like this one spoke to residents who were not yet at war themselves. Its plain address and bold flag were meant to make an immediate decision feel urgent.
